SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A Georgia judge says a one-time jail nurse is innocent in the death of a prisoner at the Chatham County lockup in Savannah.
A judge acquitted Gregory Brown on Tuesday of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 21-year-old Mathew Ajibade.
Brown was accused of failing to monitor the man before his death. He still faces charges of records fraud and making a false statement.
Ajibade died in a cell after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge on Jan. 1. Two former jail officers are still charged in the death.
Former Cpl. Jason Kenny is accused of shocking Ajibade with a Taser while his hands and legs were bound. Former Cpl. Maxine Evans is accused of failing to monitor Ajibade's medical condition.
Both Kenny and Evans say they're innocent.
