Calif. wildfire that killed 4, burned homes fully contained

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. (AP) — A destructive wildfire in Northern California that killed 4 and destroyed more than 1,000 homes has been fully contained more than three weeks after it broke out.

Cal Fire said Wednesday the blaze that began in Lake County is now 100 percent contained.

The blaze that started on Sept. 12 and it spread to Napa and Sonoma Counties. It killed four people, injured four firefighters and destroyed hundreds of structures and more than 1,000 homes.

It had burned across nearly 119 square miles of terrain before its progress was stopped.

Fire officials say the blaze was the third most destructive in the state's history.
