GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (AP) — A car has crashed through the front doors of a northern Illinois church that was hosting a donation drive for a food pantry. Six people were hospitalized with injuries.
Lake County Sheriff's Police spokesman Christopher Covelli says none of the injuries is thought to be life-threatening. The crash happened Saturday morning at the Wildwood Presbyterian Church in Grayslake.
Covelli tells the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/1YXZwJl ) that the organizer of the food drive was pinned between the car bumper and a wall and had to be extricated by firefighters.
He says the car was driven by a 72-year-old woman coming to the food drive. She was among the injured.
Covelli says she accelerated in the parking lot and crashed into the building, but a preliminary investigation has not determined why.
