SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Authorities in Texas are denying allegations that sheriff's deputies used excessive force when they fatally shot a man who appeared in a video of the incident to have his hands raised.

In court filings, Bexar (BEAR) County categorically denied the allegations of excessive use of force made by the family of 41-year-old Gilbert Flores in a federal civil rights lawsuit. The lawsuit filed earlier this month against the county, sheriff's office and two deputies involved seeks unspecified compensation for damages.

A partially obscured video shows Flores raised his arms before the deputies fatally shot him. Investigators say a second video shows Flores holding a knife.

The lawsuit also asks a judge to order the sheriff's office to keep the second video in its original form. That video hasn't been released.
