MIAMI (AP) — The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Ida is moving slowly eastward over the central tropical Atlantic.
The storm's maximum sustained winds Wednesday night are 40 mph (65 kph) with little change in strength forecast over the next 48 hours.
The storm is centered about 1,120 miles (1,805 kilometers) east of the northern Leeward Islands and is moving east at 5 mph (7 kph). It currently poses no major threats to land.
The hurricane center, in Miami, says a gradual turn toward the northeast and north is likely Thursday, followed by a turn to the northwest on Friday.
