BAKER, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a high-speed police chase began in Alabama and ended when the suspect crashed and died 40 miles away in the Florida Panhandle.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office reports 35-year-old Jeremy Elliott rolled a pickup truck and hit a tree early Monday morning in Baker, Florida, while being followed by Alabama deputies. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Inside the truck, deputies reported finding several loaded guns, what appeared to be marijuana and about $2,000 in cash.

The chase started Sunday night. Police and deputies in Flomaton, Alabama, had responded to a reported armed robbery at a Church's Chicken restaurant. While securing the area, a deputy reported spotting a red pickup moving slowly with its lights off. When the deputy attempted to stop the truck, it sped off.
