DILLSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a Pennsylvania police officer shot himself to death after officers came to arrest him for committing a burglary at his estranged wife's home and then trying to frame her boyfriend for it.
The Cumberland County district attorney said Tuesday that Susquehanna Township Police Sgt. Ronald Reinhart Jr. planted jewelry from the break-in in an attempt to make it appear her boyfriend committed the crime.
Reinhart held police at bay on Monday afternoon for several hours at his home outside Dillsburg, about 14 miles southwest of Harrisburg, after they showed up to arrest him for a jewelry theft on July 25.
Reinhart joined the police force in 1998.
This story has been corrected to show it occurred near Dillsburg, 14 miles southwest of Harrisburg, not Carroll, south of Pittsburgh.
