CINCINNATI (AP) — A University of Cincinnati police officer's fatal shooting of a motorist he stopped over a missing front license plate has prompted other colleges to discuss and review their own police policies.

The now-fired UC officer has pleaded not guilty to murder and voluntary manslaughter charges in the July 19 shooting of 43-year-old Samuel DuBose. Ex-officer Ray Tensing's attorney says he feared being dragged underneath the car as DuBose attempted to drive away.

News of the shooting spread quickly through the campus law enforcement community and became a major topic of discussion by the State Universities Law Enforcement Administrators in Ohio.

Police at schools including Kent State University, the University of Toledo and the University of Akron have done rechecks of their policies and discussed the shooting with their officers.
