MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Danny is moving slowly westward, far out over the Atlantic, and could still become a hurricane.

Danny has top sustained winds of 50 mph (85 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm could strengthen in the next few days and possibly become a hurricane by Friday.

The storm is centered about 1,325 miles (2130 kilometers) east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving westward at 10 mph (17 kph). A slightly slower forward speed is expected during the next 48 hours.

The Hurricane Center reports tropical storm force winds extend up to 70 miles (110 kilometers) from the center.

The storm does not currently pose a threat to any land.
