NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. stock market is rising at midday, bouncing back from a discouraging report on manufacturing.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 25 points, or 0.1 percent, to 17,502 as of 11:57 a.m. Eastern time on Monday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose three points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,095. The Nasdaq composite rose 15 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,063.
Stocks fell early after a report showed manufacturing activity in New York state contracted in August at the fastest pace since the Great Recession.
