MILWAUKEE (AP) — A 29-year-old man is facing a first-degree sexual assault of a child charge after being accused of following a 5-year-old boy into a drug store bathroom and assaulting him.
According to a criminal complaint released Sunday, the boy and his mother were shopping at a Walgreens store on Aug. 9 when the mother sent the boy into the men's restroom alone because the women's restroom was out of order. She waited outside.
The boy came out a few minutes later with a stunned look on his face and told his mother a man had entered the stall while he was sitting on the toilet, held his arms and bit him, the complaint said.
After the mother notified store employees, they tried to stop the suspect from leaving, but he broke free.
Milwaukee police released surveillance images of the suspect, and tips from the public helped lead to the arrest of Lamar Blackmer on Tuesday.
If convicted, Blackmer faces up to 60 years in prison. Because he is an adult, he would be required to serve at least 25 years. He was charged Saturday, according to online court records.
Blackmer at first claimed to police he had touched the boy by accident but eventually admitted to following the boy into the restroom and sexually assaulting him, the complaint says.
A message left at the office of Blackmer's attorney wasn't immediately returned Sunday.
