SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities say a man suffered major injuries after he fell 80 feet down a cliff at a Southern California beach.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1Piw4aJ ) the man was said to be in his 30s and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol when he fell early Tuesday at Sunset Cliffs.
Fire department spokesman Lee Swanson says the man was separated from his friends and climbed over a wooden railing despite warning signs.
Swanson says the friends heard him yelling for help.
Rescuers climbed down to the man, who was hoisted from the beach by a helicopter crew. He was flown to a hospital with major injuries.
Another man was rescued Friday after he jumped off the cliffs. He was also believed to be under the influence.
