Mexican followers of San Judas Tadeo prayed to and carried decorated statues of the popular green-cloaked saint known as the patron of lost causes. The faithful gather on the 28th of every month — a remembrance of his Oct. 28 feast day — to stream through a chapel near the heart of Mexico City in honor of the bearded saint known in English as St. Jude Thaddeus.

In Haiti, more than five years after a magnitude 7.0 quake destroyed much of the capital, tens of thousands of people are still unable to repair their former homes and remain without permanent housing in Port-au-Prince.
A lost whale was found swimming in Buenos Aires' urban marina, and Argentine authorities guided it out in hopes it would return to sea along the Rio de La Plata river that feeds into the Atlantic. The whale appeared to be a 2-year-old humpback, and was likely making its first migration without its mother when it got disoriented.
In other news in Argentina, the River Plate team won the Copa Libertadores tournament in Buenos Aires after defeating Mexico's Tigres.
