In this photo by Wally Santana, a fisherman uses time in port to repair nets in Yilan County, northeastern Taiwan, as Typhoon Soudelor approaches. Fishermen were securing their boats in the harbor while beachgoers packed up their surfboards before the typhoon reaches the island Friday. Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau issued typhoon warnings for part of the northeastern coast, and warnings of torrential or heavy rains covered more than half the island. Typhoons frequently hit Taiwan between June and September and can cause deadly flash floods and landslides on the mountainous and crowded island.
