SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a Utah ambulance crashed after a psychiatric patient grabbed the steering wheel, injuring two medical workers and the man getting treatment.
The Utah Highway Patrol says the driver lost control when the male patient got ahold of the wheel on Interstate 15 near Draper about 3 a.m. Friday. Trooper Cameron Roden says the ambulance transporting the man crashed and rolled.
All three people were listed in fair condition Friday.
Juab County Chief Deputy Al Taylor says officers are investigating how the man was able to get to the front of the ambulance, the nature of his condition and whether proper procedures were followed.
He says emergency medical crews from the county about 80 miles south of Salt Lake City are made up of trained volunteers.
