DENVER (AP) — Authorities say four hikers were struck by lightning near a popular trailhead west of Buena Vista.
Derek Bos with the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office tells The Denver Post (http://goo.gl/uAnzme ) that emergency crews were called to the Denny Creek trailhead Friday afternoon. He says two people are in critical condition, while another two suffered minor injuries and were able to get off the mountain on their own.
One of the victims in critical condition was taken off the mountain by a rescue helicopter, and the other was carried out. Their names and ages have not been released.
The trailhead is about 11 miles west of Buena Vista and is a popular gateway to Mount Yale, Hartenstein Lake and Browns Pass.
