LAS VEGAS (AP) — At its peak, Las Vegas was home to one out of every 20 weddings in the United States. That number, however, has been dropping.

The Las Vegas Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1JhLh7d ) that nearly 47,000 fewer couples were married in the city's little white chapels than a decade ago, despite record numbers of tourists flooding the city.

The city's multimillion-dollar industry for providing easy, quick marriages has noticed increased competition as the numbers declined. Clark County Clerk Lynn Goya looked at 30 years of data and noted the steady decline.

Goya has requested a $14 increase in the cost of wedding licenses, with the extra money going toward marketing the industry to engaged couples.

The Clark County Commission is expected to vote on the fee increase next week.
