QUARTZSITE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a fatal crash caused by a wrong-way driver on an Arizona interstate has triggered a deadly pileup.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety says first crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday on I-10 near Quartzsite.
Investigators say, the wrong-way driver slammed head-on into another vehicle in the eastbound lanes and two other vehicles were hit.
They say a woman in the vehicle involved in the initial head-on crash was killed. The wrong-way driver was critically injured..
Eight others were hospitalized, but their conditions are unknown.
DPS says the second crash happened around 5:30 a.m. Saturday when a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer failed to slow down for congestion related to the collision.
The truck rear-ended another commercial vehicle, leading to two other commercial trucks getting hit.
Authorities say the driver who failed to slow died.
