SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah woman accused of posing as a lawyer last year has taken a plea deal.
Online court records show 30-year-old Karla Carbo pleaded guilty Friday in a Salt Lake City courtroom to four felony counts. Eight other counts were dismissed as part of an agreement that calls for her to serve 90 days in jail and pay back nearly $6,000 she earned.
She is set to be sentenced on Sept. 4.
Prosecutors say Carbo had a law office and advertised legal services online but has never been licensed to practice law in Utah. She represented five clients in criminal and divorce cases, authorities said.
Carbo used a real lawyer's name and bar license number to avoid scrutiny and be allowed in the courtrooms.
