MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Police are searching for a 7-month-old boy who may have been with his father when the man jumped from a Connecticut bridge.
Search crews are checking the Connecticut River between Middletown and Portland. Police say 22-year-old Tony Moreno of Middletown called someone about 11:45 p.m. Sunday, saying he would jump from the Arrigoni Bridge. That person contacted police and said a baby could be heard in the background.
Police say they saw Moreno jump into the river, but did not see a baby with him.
Middletown firefighters pulled him from the water and transported him to Hartford Hospital where he is in serious condition. The infant is still missing.
Police say they also have been interviewing Moreno's family to see if the child is with them.
This story has been corrected to show the last name of the man is Moreno, not Morano.
