Team Africa wins Peachtree Cup at AJC Peachtree Road Race

ATLANTA (AP) — Team Africa beat Team USA to win the Peachtree Cup in an annual 10-kilometer run in Atlanta.

The first-place finish by Daniel Salel and a strong showing by Team Africa's three female runners cemented its win Saturday in the AJC Peachtree Road Race. The winners will earn a $42,000 prize.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://on-ajc.com/1CRBdzk ) the six members of Team Africa had the fastest combined time of 3:06:29. Team USA clocked in second at 3:07:35, followed by Team Europe at 3:09:49. The members of Team Asia finished the course in 3:15:58.

Thousands of amateur runners are competing in the Independence Day tradition, despite the soggy weather. The course starts at Lenox Square and ends at Piedmont Park.
