DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A court hearing for the man accused of killing three Muslim students in Chapel Hill earlier this year has been canceled.
Durham County Superior Court dockets listed a scheduled appearance Monday for Craig Stephen Hicks, but a clerk said that hearing has been canceled. A new hearing date has not yet been set.
The 46-year-old Hicks is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the Feb. 10 killings of 23-year-old Deah Shaddy Barakat; his wife, 21-year-old Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha; and her sister, 19-year-old Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the shootings, which investigators say resulted from a long-running dispute involving parking at a condominium complex near the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hicks lived in the same building as Barakat and his wife.
