QUARRYVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A suspect was taken into custody Thursday in the stabbing deaths of a Pennsylvania woman and her 16-year-old daughter and the wounding of her 15-year-old daughter, police said.
Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman confirmed that an unnamed suspect in the stabbings at a Quarryville-area home was in custody. He said more information about the killings would be released later.
Police had said earlier that they believed the victims knew the suspect and that there were no public safety concerns.
Troopers said they were called to the home in a rural area about 70 miles west of Philadelphia at 2:20 a.m. and found the injured girl. She was listed in critical but stable condition at a hospital.
Investigators found the two dead victims while searching the home's basement.
Steve Hershey, a man who lived in another part of the home, told WGAL-TV that the woman and the two girls had lived in the basement for about three years.
The coroner told the station that the victims' names might be released on Friday, when autopsies are scheduled.
