CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Public Schools and a teacher are accused in a federal lawsuit of not doing enough to stop students from sexually abusing a then-5-year-old student.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1dtj703 ) the mother of the unidentified Wendell Smith Elementary School student filed the lawsuit Tuesday.
It claims the abuse started in January 2014 when students used a bathroom intended for older students and another boy demanded sexual acts from the boy.
The lawsuit says students continued to use the bathroom together after the abuse was reported, and a teacher made fun of the boy.
The lawsuit says the principal reported the incident to state authorities in June 2014.
CPS and the school board are accused of negligence and violating the boy's rights. CPS officials didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
