NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are opening lower following losses in Europe as a deadline approaches in Greece's debt talks.

Food maker J.M. Smucker fell 2.5 percent early Thursday after reporting a loss in its latest quarter.

Dish Network and T-Mobile jumped after The Wall Street Journal reported that the two companies are considering a merger.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 90 points, or 0.4 percent, to 17,999 as of 9:35 a.m.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost seven points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,106. The Nasdaq composite declined 10 points, or 0.2 percent, to 5,089.

European markets fell broadly as Greece remained stuck in talks with its creditors about releasing more emergency funds. A debt payment is due Friday.
