GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — A trial date has been set for a woman accused in the death of her stepdaughter, who was forced to run as punishment until she collapsed and later died.

Court records show the trial for 30-year-old Jessica Mae Hardin is scheduled for Feb. 22.

Nine-year-old Savannah Hardin collapsed after running and died three days later in February 2012. Prosecutors have said the girl's grandmother Joyce Hardin Garrard made the child run for hours as punishment for a lie about candy.

Prosecutors have said Hardin didn't intervene to try to help the child before she died.

Garrard was sentenced to life in prison.
