NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey man found dead under a mattress at a hotel near the Empire State Building had been bludgeoned.
Police on Tuesday identified the victim as 28-year-old Roderick Goodwin of Bridgeton, New Jersey. The medical examiner ruled Goodwin died from blunt force trauma and was asphyxiated.
No arrests have been made, but police suspect the killing may be related to prostitution. Authorities say two women and three men were in the room with the victim, and two of them are in custody. A safe was stolen.
Officers were called to the Hilton Garden Inn at around 4 a.m. Monday.
The 298-room hotel is on West 35th Street, near Herald Square and Penn Station in a part of Manhattan bustling with tourists and business travelers.
