RATHDRUM, Idaho (AP) — A pet Chihuahua survived for two days in the wreckage of a van after a crash with a semi-truck in Idaho killed its owner.
Spokane, Washington, television station KHQ reports (http://is.gd/lPN8Lr ) that the dog was in a kennel inside the van when 85-year-old Marie-Claire Steinkamp drove through a stop sign and hit the truck. She died in the crash Saturday.
Deputies thought they heard a cellphone ringing as the van was loaded on a tow truck, but they couldn't find anything. It wasn't until Monday, when investigators went to re-examine the vehicle, that they found the dog named Uno Solo.
It's now living at an animal rescue and needs a new home. The shelter says he gets along well with other dogs, but not small children.
