STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn students began lining up in the rain outside Gampel Pavilion more than two hours before the scheduled tip of the women's national championship game just to get a good seat to watch it on TV.
The school has made a tradition of opening the basketball arena for title games. Senior Hillary Kranz of Colchester has been to four in the past four years, including two a year ago when both the men and the women won NCAA championships.
She says she grew up idolizing Husky stars such as Maya Moore and that UConn basketball has been a huge part of her college experience.
This is the 14th championship game for the UConn basketball teams. The women were 9-0 in title games coming into Tuesday. The men are 4-0.
