Image of Asia: Waiting to pay respects to Singapore's Lee

In this photo by Wong Maye-E, tents in a grassy area in front of the Singapore skyline provide shade for people standing in line to pay their respects for the city-state's late founder Lee Kuan Yew at Parliament House, where his body is lying in state. Some 230,000 people have viewed Lee's coffin, and the government discouraged more people from coming to the venue because of the long waits. Prime minister for 31 years, Lee is credited with transforming the resource-poor island into a wealthy finance and trade hub of gleaming glass towers and broad, immaculate streets. He died Monday of pneumonia and his funeral attended by several heads of state is scheduled for Sunday.
