US stocks slip in early trading

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. stock market is down slightly in early trading, extending the small losses from the day before.

The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 14 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,101 as of 9:35 a.m. Tuesday

The Standard & Poor's 500 index eased two points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,101.

The Nasdaq composite fell three points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,007. The index is 40 points from its all-time high hit during the dot-com bubble in 2000.

Shares of Freeport-McMoRan fell 3 percent after the company said it will cut its quarterly dividend payment.

Crude oil fell 7 cents to $46.38 a barrel in New York.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note crept down to 1.90 percent, from 1.91 percent.
