US stock market starts week with small losses

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stock indexes are closing slightly lower following a strong performance last week.

Six of 10 sectors in the Standard & Poor's 500 index fell on Monday. Industrial stocks slid the most.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged down 11 points, or 0.1 percent, to close at 18,116.

The S&P 500 slipped three points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,104. Railroad operator Kansas City Southern posted the biggest decline. It fell 8 percent after lowering its revenue outlook for the year.

The Nasdaq composite fell 15 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,010. The index is 38 points from its all-time high reached during the dot-com bubble in March 2000.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.91 percent from 1.93 percent late Friday.
