DALLAS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a moving company found a possible Civil War-era relic while removing boxes from a northwest Georgia home.
Paulding County Sheriff's spokesman Ashley Henson tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/1I21uyv) that movers were taking boxes out of a home Wednesday when they found a cannonball with its fuse still attached. Henson says the ball was packed inside a cardboard box.
Henson says responding deputies thought the cannonball looked authentic and reported it to a supervisor. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation bomb squad was called and the cannonball as detonated at a former shooting range.
Henson says it's unclear if the cannonball contained a live round or a dummy round.
Dallas is about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta.
