POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — A Boston auction house is selling items once owned by Ed Wood, the cult film figure who some critics consider the worst Hollywood movie director of all time.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports (http://pojonews.co/1MvRoZj ) that the items up for bidding online starting Thursday include the Poughkeepsie native's leather briefcase, notebooks, candid photographs and movie stills. Some items are signed by Wood, who was born in the Hudson Valley city in 1924. He died in 1978.

Wood's low-budget, campy movies were universally panned, but have since achieved cult status. A few auction items are related to his 1959 movie, "Plan 9 From Outer Space," which tops many lists as the worst film ever made.

The auctioneer, RR Auction, says it obtained the collection from the widow of a North Carolina man who collected Wood memorabilia.
