JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Four people were killed and southbound lanes of an Interstate highway perimeter around Jacksonville, Florida, were shut down after fiery crash when a tractor trailer hit an SUV from behind.
A Florida Highway Patrol spokesman say it happened Monday afternoon on the Buckman Bridge segment of Interstate 295, south of Jacksonville. He said two adults and two children inside the SUV were killed.
Authorities say another, smaller SUV was also damaged after the initial crash, injuring three more people inside. The tractor-trailer driver survived the crash.
Traffic cameras showed that authorities had completely closed the southbound side of bridge to traffic. Officials expected the closure to last for hours.
Photos showed a large plume of black smoke rising from the bridge.
The names of the victims weren't immediately released.
