Image of Asia: Hindus pray to wash away sins in rivers

A Hindu man prays alongside other devotees at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers, on the morning of the new moon during the annual Magh Mela festival in Allahabad, India. The day called "Mauni Amavasya" is the most auspicious and most popular day to take a holy dip in the water to wash away sins. Hundreds of thousands of Hindus come to Allahabad to bathe in the confluence, and masses of temporary tents are erected on the riverbanks to shelter the pilgrims during the festival.
