NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Philharmonic and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts are collaborating to present over three years staged productions of three modern operas that haven't been seen in the city.
George Benjamin's "Written of Skin" will be given three performances at Lincoln Center's Koch Theater in August in the Katie Mitchell production used for the opera's premiere at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in France in 2012.
The Philharmonic and Lincoln Center said Wednesday the cast for the U.S. stage premiere will include Barbara Hannigan, Christopher Purves and Victoria Simmonds from the original staging. Philharmonic music director Alan Gilbert will conduct the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
Gerald Barry's "The Importance of Being Earnest" will be performed in June 2016 at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The 2017 production hasn't been announced.
