BISBEE, Ariz. (AP) — An aircraft mechanic killed in the crash of a helicopter leased by a southeastern Arizona sheriff's department was a 59-year-old Navy veteran who worked for the company that provided the helicopter.
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office late Thursday identified the mechanic, one of two people aboard the "Cochise Air" helicopter when it crashed Wednesday evening near Benson, as Marc Hansen, an employee of Airwest LLC in Glendale.
The Glendale Police Department previously identified the pilot killed in the crash as 48-year-old Jeff Steele, another Airwest employee and a retired Glendale police officer.
The helicopter crashed near Benson as it returned to Sierra Vista from a trip to Phoenix for routine maintenance. Benson is about 150 miles southeast of Phoenix.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
