WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Hundreds of candles lit up the night during a vigil Wednesday for a college student last seen leaving a bar in Philadelphia on Thanksgiving morning.
Friends and family of 21-year-old Shane Montgomery stood and prayed outside the student union building on the suburban campus of West Chester University, where he is a senior.
Earlier Wednesday, volunteers continued putting up posters and searching for Montgomery in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, where he disappeared last week after a night out with friends. Authorities also used a dog to search the area.
Montgomery was last seen leaving Kildare's Irish Pub at about 2 a.m. Nov. 28. His mother, Karen Montgomery, said Wednesday there are no leads in his disappearance.
"It's hard. I think that I go to bed and try to get very fitful rest, and it's a nightmare I can't wake up from," she told WPVI-TV.
The FBI joined in the investigation with the Philadelphia Police Department over the weekend. FBI Supervisory Special Agent J.J. Klaver said investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the area. Klaver said authorities know of nothing to suggest foul play but noted that Montgomery disappeared under "mysterious" circumstances and that they aren't ruling anything out.
"We don't have any reason to believe that he would disappear on his own and drop off the grid," Klaver said.
Rewards totaling $31,000 are being offered in the case.
