FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in South Florida are searching for a suspect believed responsible for three armed carjackings and shooting two people, one fatally.

Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Deanna Greenlaw said Tuesday the victims, a man and a woman, were shot multiple times in Hallandale Beach. The FBI later said the man had died.

Greenlaw says the suspect then drove a stolen car north on Interstate 95, crashing near downtown Fort Lauderdale and getting away on foot. Some schools were locked down and traffic snarled while authorities, including the FBI, searched the area.

The crime spree began in Sunrise, where a woman and her son were ordered to drive to I-95, where they were released unharmed.

Police say the suspect then drove south to Dania Beach and committed a second carjacking, followed by the shooting and third carjacking.
