STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A judge has agreed to lower the sex-offender registration requirements for an Ohio high school football player who served time in a juvenile facility for the rape of a 16-year-old girl.

Ma'Lik Richmond and another player, Trent Mays, were found delinquent in the rape of the West Virginia girl after a party in August 2012. Richmond was released in January after a one-year sentence and rejoined the football team this fall.

As a sex offender, he'd been ordered to register his address every six months for the next 20 years. The judge Friday agreed to reclassify him so that he has to register only once a year for the next decade.

WTOV-TV (http://bit.ly/1uv2o1Q ) reports that the victim's mother opposed the change. Richmond's attorney declined to comment Friday.
