ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A New York woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for kidnapping a Pennsylvania woman and her infant after escaping police custody at a hospital while she was pregnant.
Thirty-six-year-old Billie Jo Ribble was sentenced Monday in federal court in Rochester, where she pleaded guilty in March.
Ribble was arrested in 2013 in Tioga (ty-OH'-guh) County, Pennsylvania, on an arrest warrant from neighboring Steuben (stoo-BEHN') County, New York, charging her in a 2012 burglary. After complaining of stomach pains due to her pregnancy, she was taken to a hospital in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.
Authorities said she assaulted her guard, then jumped out a window and escaped.
She kidnapped a woman and her baby at knifepoint and forced the mother to drive her back to New York, where she was captured.
Prosecutors say state charges stemming from the burglary are still pending.
