CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. (AP) — An African grey parrot has been stolen from a southern New Jersey zoo.

Brutus disappeared from the Cape May County Zoo on Sunday between his morning feeding and 2:15 p.m., when the staff returned to give him lunch.

Brutus was kept in a large cage in the zoo's aviary that was latched, but not locked.

Zookeeper Peter Cyr tells The Press of Atlantic City (http://bit.ly/1ui83bq ) locks seemed unnecessary because the parrots consistently try to bite or attack anyone who got too close.

Zoo officials are sure Brutus didn't get out on his own because the cage was latched.

The zoo is asking whoever took the bird to return it, no questions asked.
