New tropical depression forms in the Pacific

MIAMI (AP) — A new tropical depression has formed in the Pacific, south of Mexico's coast and is expected to become a tropical storm.

The depression's maximum sustained winds early Thursday are near 35 mph (55 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says gradual strengthening is forecast and the depression is expected to strengthen to a tropical storm later in the day or Thursday night.

The depression is centered about 410 miles (655 kilometers) south of Acapulco, Mexico, and is moving west near 6 mph (9 kph).
