LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities in Las Vegas say a 21-year-old man and his 22-year-old girlfriend are facing criminal charges in an attack on a school crossing guard who witnesses say waved them to a stop as they sped through a school zone.
Police say an off-duty railroad police officer received several stitches for a facial injury suffered when he intervened as Adam Patrick Kondrat and Sabrina J. Torres attacked the crossing guard just after 8 a.m. Monday at an intersection several miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip.
The crossing guard was treated at a hospital for cuts and bruises.
Kondrat and Torres were held Tuesday at the Clark County jail pending an initial court appearance. Police say both weren't available for interviews and haven't yet received lawyers.
