More than 2,000 baby and two adult protected olive ridley turtles from a breeding center were released as part of a campaign to save the turtles. Turtle meat is a traditional delicacy in Bali, although Indonesia has banned trade and consumption of sea turtles due to concerns about dwindling numbers and the possibility of a tourist boycott. Turtles, especially green and olive ridleys, are among several protected species in the vast nation of 17,000 islands.
