2 dead from Detroit shooting, crash after vigil

DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say two people are dead after a shooting and car crash that followed a vigil on Detroit's west side.

Police Chief James Craig says one person was killed and four others were wounded in the shooting early Friday inside a home. Some at the house had attended the vigil the night before at another location.

Police say some vehicles sped away after the shooting, sparking a chase with officers. One person was killed and another critically injured when one of the fleeing cars hit a fire hydrant.

Craig says it's not clear why the vigil was held, but the shooting doesn't appear to be related to it.

Two people were arrested on gun charges. Five others were taken into custody at a hospital.

Police recovered three weapons.
