LAS VEGAS (AP) — Seasonal monsoon moisture and the remnants of Tropical Storm Norbert has caused flooding throughout the Southwest, submerging vehicles and homes in several states.
In Nevada, heavy rains and flash flooding washed away portions of Interstate 15, prompting state officials on Tuesday to close a nearly 50-mile stretch of the major trucking artery that runs between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.
Zion National Park in southern Utah was closed for several hours after officials said heavy rain and a surging river made some roads impassable.
In Phoenix, residents were beginning to mop up and dry out after Monday's deluge set a single-day rainfall record. A flash-flood watch was issued for much of the rest of Arizona through Tuesday evening.
