DETROIT (AP) — Authorities have delayed the custody trial of the father and stepmother of a 12-year-old Detroit boy who was found in his father's basement after an 11-day disappearance.
Michigan is seeking to terminate the rights of Charlie Bothuell IV and Monique Dillard-Bothuell to two other children and the father's rights to Charlie Bothuell V. Police found Charlie Bothuell V in the basement of his father's condo on June 25.
Assistant Attorney General Virginia Trzaskoma (trass-KOH'-muh) says the trial in Wayne County juvenile court was delayed at the request of the couple's lawyers. It now is set for Jan. 26. The trial had been scheduled to start Monday.
Authorities say Charlie was abused and forced to complete intense physical workouts. There are no criminal charges.
