SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah bus driver is facing misdemeanor charges after a 10-year-old girl was fatally injured after stepping off his bus in April.

Prosecutors say 44-year-old Troy Daniels failed to properly signal that children were stepping off the bus. He has been charged with misdemeanors reckless endangerment and failure to signal his vehicle was stopped.

Authorities say Seleny Crosby had just stepped off her bus in South Jordan when she was struck by a second bus whose driver didn't see her. She died two days later.

The first bus is reported to have turned on its hazard flashers but did not use its loading lights or stop signs. Prosecutors say the driver was handing out flyers to students as they disembarked.

Jordan School District officials have said they are rethinking bus policies and routes. Efforts to determine if Daniels has an attorney were unsuccessful.
